Conservation Status
Great Blue Heron populations have increased in recent years, and are fairly common throughout the United States. Issues such as habitat loss and pollution continue to affect this species.
Habitat
Great Blue Herons can be found in either freshwater or saltwater habitats. They tend to stay close to water sources such as rivers, lakes, and ponds, but can also be found in grasslands and agricultural fields. These herons can be found standing by the edge of the water, waiting for their prey to swim by.
