Conservation Status

Cooper’s Hawk populations are stable and have increased in recent years. This population trend is very different from what it used to be in the mid twentieth century, when populations were rapidly declining due to the use of DDT pesticides and widespread shooting.

These hawks live in woodland habitats and can be found in forests, parks, farms, fields, and even backyards.
