Conservation Status

Red-tailed hawks are very common and have increased in population in recent years. However, these hawks still face threats such as habitat loss, electrocution on powerlines, and collisions at wind farms.

Habitat

Red-tailed hawks can be found in a wide variety of open habitats, such as grasslands, roadsides, fields, pastures, and broken woodland. These hawks typically won’t be found in dense forest, and can often be seen souring high in the sky or perched on a tall tree or fence. Some have even adapted to living in human-occupied areas.
