Conservation Status
Indigo Buntings are abundant and widespread. Their populations are decreasing due to intensive agriculture, reforestation, frequent mowing, and increasing urbanization. Due to the male’s brilliant blue coloring, they are sometimes illegally captured and sold throughout Mexico. Indigo Buntings are also vulnerable to building and car collisions.
Habitat
Indigo Buntings breed in areas filled with brush and weeds. They can be found by the edges of woods, in fields, and along roads, streams, rivers, powerline cuts, and shrubby grasslands.
