Conservation Status

The population of Downy Woodpeckers has remained stable in recent years. However, chemical pollution from pesticides and insecticides has had a negative effect on them since their diet mainly consists of insects.

Habitat

Downy Woodpeckers prefer to live in open woodlands, especially deciduous forests. They can also be found in parks, orchards, and suburban areas. While they can be found all throughout the forest, they tend to prefer areas near water sources such as creeks or rivers.
